Lyrics / LIRIEKE
lyrics OF 'DIE ONSE VADER" by Kobus Muller

Ons Vader wat woon in die hemel
Geheilig sy U naam
Laat U ryk kom
U wil geskied
Soos in die hemel
So ook op die aarde

Gee ons vandag ons dag se brood
En vergeef ons al ons skulde
Net soos ons vergewe
Dié wat teen ons sondig

Laat kom ons nie in die versoeking,
maar verlos ons van die bose

Want U is die ryk
En die sterkte
En die Here
Vir ewig en ewig Amen
Vir ewig en ewig Amen

discover THE STORY AND MEANING BEHIND THE RECORDING.

At the age of 8, I taught myself to play the organ - without reading sheet music, without formal lessons - just a child guided by curiosity, instinct, and something deeper: faith. Music became my prayer. It became how I listened for God’s voice, and how I answered. In our family home, the heart of that faith was "Die Onse Vader".

Hanging on the wall of our living room, lovingly crocheted by my mother and framed by my father’s hands, were the words of this sacred prayer. It watched over every Bible study we shared as a family. It became more than just words—it was part of the rhythm of our lives. For my father, Die Onse Vader was not just a prayer. It was a way of living. It was how he led our family: with reverence, humility, and quiet strength.

My father, Jacobus Johannes Philippus Muller, was born on 9 October 1954 - a man of principle, unwavering faith, and gentle wisdom. He passed away on 1 July 2021, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the travel restrictions at the time, I was unable to say goodbye in person or attend his funeral - something that has left an ache in my heart that words can never fully ease.

And the truth is - I have been struggling ever since.

Over the past four years, I’ve faced a kind of grief that goes beyond sadness. I’ve struggled with serious depression, with the weight of unfinished goodbyes, with the deafening silence left behind when someone so vital, so constant, is suddenly gone. It’s taken a serious toll on my life, my health, my creativity. It’s left a deep dark and empty hole in my heart, that nothing seems to fill.

There were days I couldn’t create. Days I couldn’t play. Days I couldn’t sing or perform. Days where I questioned everything - I still do. The light that once burned so brightly in me as a musician and as a person felt dimmed. I was lost in mourning - a mourning that had no ceremony, no closure. Only silence.

But this year, as I turned 40, I felt something shift. Not a healing, exactly. Not a “moving on.” But a deep need to honor - to remember him not in silence, but in sound. In music. In one of the songs and prayers he loved the most.

He often hinted, quietly and humbly, that if ever there was a song to be sung at his funeral, it should be "Die Onse Vader". Not a performance, but a prayer. Not a showcase, but a conversation with God.

As I found the courage to produce and record "Die Onse Vader", I searched far and wide for a version that sounded like the prayer my father loved. But I couldn’t find one that captured the quiet power, the stillness, and the sacredness it held in our home. So I decided to create my own arrangement - a version that speaks from my soul, played on the organ and sung from the place where memory and faith meet.

This recording of "Die Onse Vader" is not just music or another recording. It is a tribute. A farewell. A thank you. A prayer to Heaven for the father, who taught me how to live with grace, who never complained, and who faced every trial with quiet dignity. He was my role model, my guide, my father.

"Pa, ek mis jou elke dag. Daar gaan geen oomblik verby waar ek nie aan jou dink nie. Pa was my held, my voorbeeld, my rus in moeilike tye. Die wêreld voel leeg sonder Pa se stem, lag en wysheid. Ek sou enigiets gee vir nog een gesprek, nog een drukkie, nog een kans om vir Pa te kon sê hoeveel ek Pa liefhet. Dankie vir alles wat Pa my geleer het. Dankie dat jy my Pa was. Pa het ’n merk op my siel gelaat wat tyd nooit sal uitvee nie. Rus in vrede, Pa. Jy sal altyd deel van my wees. Ek dra Pa in my hart – in elke noot wat ek speel, in elke gebed wat ek fluister. Rus sag in vrede. Tot ons eendag mekaar weer sien. Liefde Kobus Muller."

ENGLISH TRANSLATION: ""Dad, I miss you every day. Not a moment goes by without me thinking of you. You were my hero, my role model, my comfort in difficult times. The world feels empty without your voice, your laughter, and your wisdom. I would give anything for one more conversation, one more hug, one more chance to tell you how much I love you. Thank you for everything you taught me. Thank you for being my father. You left a mark on my soul that time will never erase. Rest in peace, Dad. You will always be a part of me. I carry you in my heart — in every note I play, in every prayer I whisper. Rest softly in peace. Until we meet again one day. Love, Kobus Muller."
